Summer Lake, Ore.—March 6, 2018. PLAYA is expanding its outreach with the addition of performances by PLAYA residents at the historic Alger Theatre in Lakeview, Ore. On Wednesday, March 14, March resident and KindTree family member TR Kelly, acoustic guitarist, and resident Dana Halferty, electric guitarist, will offer a performance at the Alger starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, available from the Lake County Chamber of Commerce or at the door, are $10 and proceeds benefit the Alger Theatre.
About Dana Halferty Dana Halferty has been finding ways to travel with her guitar since the age of 12, discovering power early on in nonverbal expression. In her desire to unpack complex questions about human relationships, she uses writing as a personal tool for parsing emotional spaces and asking questions. Her use of ethereal tones and earthy layers evoke a sense of intimacy. Mixing those feelings with thick blankets of reverb, chorus and orchestral layers has led to her distinct dreamlike sound. Halferty has released two albums with the band Parlours and is currently working on her first solo record. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, she continues to release and license music and has been featured on TV shows on FOX, ABC, CMT, various feature films and commercials.
About TR Kelley After high school, self-taught Oregon bassist/vocalist TR Kelley toured with a series of hotel cover bands in genres ranging from hard country to jazz standards, as both a job and a valuable apprenticeship. A small career as an original singer-songwriter followed, with CDs, festivals, airplay, and a song in the Smithsonian Folkways collection. After the 2017 release of her latest project, the concept album “The Raventones – Much More Black,” TR began working on new ideas for bass and baritone guitar that evoke tectonic forces and the vast landscapes of the American West. Influenced by bass virtuoso Michael Manring, ambient artist Steve Roach and the writings of John Steinbeck, the new works have sparse vocals and minimal beats. Hear some of TR’s previous works here.
