KindTree is dedicated to serving and celebrating the Autism Community through art, education, and recreation. With warm hearted whimsy, an open sense of family and a deep level of caring, we reach inside ourselves to embrace our flaws, gather our strengths, and offer our love while reaching out to people with autism spectrum disorders, their families and care givers. Through the power of self-advocacy in an atmosphere of acceptance and respect, autistic and neuro-normal people alike can work toward self- realization.

With Autism

The Retreat is designed around the needs of those living with autism. Parents and caregivers can bring their autistic charges and relax with them over the weekend, knowing that they are in a safe and nurturing environment.
The retreat is a time for rejuvenation and solidarity. Autists are accepted and enjoyed for themselves, not forced into a procrustean neuro-normal mold.
Volunteering at this event is like being with family. There's plenty of work to do, but there is always someone to chat with and enjoy while you're working. Tasks include plenty of kitchen duty, leading nature walks, helping with games and crafts, keeping a good vibe going, and looking after people. It's a wondeful chance to experience the Autism Community and learn.

Our computer exchange program collects older PCs and refurbishes them for distribution to people with autism - for almost FREE! (we have a $15 handling fee now) KindTree has provided over $8,000 worth of tax deductions to donors and over 30 systems and components to people with autism over the last 5 years.
Over the years this program survives because of computer tech volunteers who get these machines going. We use Windows 98 and install Star Office. Modems, CD-ROMs and sound cards need installing with the proper drivers. We are always behind. PLEASE help with this program!

Our Art Program offers art works created by people who have autism spectrum disorders. We proudly participate in Eugene's exciting "Art and the Vineyard" event every July 4th weekend, offering for sale cards, prints and a wide variety of original art produced by people with autism. This event creates income for the artists and lets everyone know who they are. We celebrate our artists with a gala opening, giving neuro-normal people a chance to rub elbows with some notable autists, and autists palpable proof of their self-worth and a market for their art.
Volunteers help here by staffing the sales booth during events, helping market items at local stores, finding materials to refurbish our frames, working with artists and more.

Our Book Review Page needs a steady stream of new reviews. Please let us know if you have read a good book lately! books@kindtree.org

In addition, volunteers help at our Spring Forum (conceived by a volunteer) setting up and working refreshments. We have help with the website and graphic work. We hope to reach out to artists in the schools, with your help. Other opportunities often arise.

If you are a professional, or have unique skills (caregiver, entertainer, autism specialist...), we would love your input and creativity in our effort to serve the Autism Community. Board positions are sometimes open.

Please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Tim Mueller, 541-521-7208 or volunteer@kindtree.org

We know how to have fun. Thanks.
