Thanks to the Million Dollar Roundtable Foundation Grant, The KindTree-Autism Rocks STiLE program and Reality Kitchen hosted a “get to know you” young adult social on Friday, May 30th with free pizza, music, and information sharing. About 30 people came to learn more about the programs being offered through KindTree-Autism Rocks and Reality Kitchen. Members of our peer support group were also there to answer questions and share experiences with individuals and family members. Beginning in September STiLE will host a drop-in social on the second Friday of the month from 6-7:30p at Reality Kitchen. John Marshal will be our host. Besides socializing, people can purchase food and drink and participate in the evening activities that may include karaoke, music, performance art, and/or poetry reading. The dates are September 12, October 10, November 14, and December 12th.
The KindTree-Autism Rocks Skills Training for an Independent Living Experience will be offering a variety of trainings this fall including: Beginning and Intermediate Jewelry Expressions, Making it Tasty Cooking, Art and Communication, and Friday Night Socials. If there is an interest we offer a Garden to Table training at the Riley Campbell Memorial Garden at Alton Baker Park too. Our goal is to fill the trainings this fall and offer two additional trainings this winter including a Job Readiness/Vocational Training and the Boundaries with Nel training. A complete listing of days, times, will be on the STiLE website by August 1st.
Old and new members of the STiLE Advisory Committee recently met at Hilyard Community Center to review the past 18 months and plan for the next year. We produced some excellent ideas and formulated the beginnings of a plan of growth and expansion that includes offering more training, hiring a part time program coordinator, and recruiting new students. STiLE has two grants pending and will be submitting another grant in August and one in September. If successful we will be able to fund the STiLE strategic plan. More news to come!
