To those of you who see this as only a child finger painting.... you need to understand that children with autism have sensory issues. Siobhan finds anything wet, gooey, or slimy absolutely repulsive. (Because of this, she only eats dry & crunchy foods.) The ONLY time she will touch any kind of wet, squishy substance is when she paints. She used to only use brushes & freak out if any paint got on her. I had to clean it immediately... or there was a complete meltdown. Now, she gets right in there, asks or indicates the colors she wants, and blends them beautifully on canvas. |
