Greetings,
I know, you're thinking, "Where has
KindTree been since November? Just what are they doing?!"
Well, we've been quietly busy preparing for 2005, rebuilding
our twice crashed e-mail list and data files, and strengthening
our friendships.
And now we're back!
There's lots of events coming up for KindTree
and the rest of our Autism Community. Please check out the Calendar
below. First, though, let me highlight a few:
The Shy Person's Talent Show, Saturday,
March 5, 7:30 - 11 PM Knights of Pythias Hall, 420
West 12th.
This event has been part of Eugene for many years. It is a family
oriented event where you can be both the audience and an entertainer.
This year is special because they have decided to donate all
their proceeds to KindTree! So we will be there in force with
Mary-Minn, Jeanne-Marie and Tim and Nel doing some entertaining,
and we'll have T-shirts, too. Read more below, and come on over.
This is a really sweet night.
Silent Auction / Luncheon at the
Hilton's 12th Floor, Sunday April 10 Noon - 3:30 PM
This event is our big Fund Raiser for the Spring. We are featuring
a great Italian buffet menu complete with desert. We have scores
of great donated items to bid on, including art by Nancy Bright,
clothing from June Bug, and so much more. And of course we will
have wonderful live music to help us get in a great mood. Tickets
are only $20 for adults and $10 for kids under 16. We like to
keep prices reasonable here at KindTree, and we know how to
have fun. But we're asking for your help to generate the income
we need to keep going. Please order a ticket here
TODAY!
KindTree Autism Forum, Hilyard Center,
Sunday May 15, 1 - 7 PM
We are planning a series of panels on adult and transition issues
this year. Your input is welcome. Let us know what you think
needs to be discussed. This event is a no-cost event, with donations
accepted. It's an opportunity to speak with your peers and with
autism experts, to share and brainstorm. Be there.
In other news, the newly formed Autism Society
of Oregon - Lane County Chapter has been meeting and is beginning
work on some much needed projects. Amoung them is a sort of
"yellow pages" of resources for people with autism
and their families. We've been working toward this gaol since
the first KindTree Forum. It's great to see it moving forward.
You are part of a great community here in
Lane County. Enjoy it, learn with it, and be involved.
Thanks for listening.

KindTree Autism Forum. Adult Challenges and
Transitions and more... Your kids are all gonna grow up - sooner
than you think. What are they gonna do, where are they gonna
go, what challenges will they face? Come participate. FREE!
More about this later...
Words have big power.
Your body prepares for whatever
you are creating in your thoughts. Are you aware of what you
say to yourself throughout the day?
If you are curious about
whether you are using positive or negative words about any area
of your life, simply take a look at that area and see what you
are experiencing. It will be an amazing match. For instance,
think of a situation that is not going as well as you'd like
it to be going, then notice what your self-talk is about the
situation. Conversely, notice an area in your life that is going
well and notice what your self-talk is about that area. New
research in the area of insomnia shows that people who sleep
poorly talk about what poor sleepers they are all day long!
When you get them to talk about their sleep differently, they
sleep better!
